Simon Björken of Cal State Monterey Bay has been named CCAA Men’s Golfer of the Week, for the second time in his collegiate career.
Björken survived a two-hole playoff on Wednesday to win the Battle in the Desert at the Rams Hill Country Club in Borrego Springs. He went 2-under in Wednesday’s third and final round to slip into a tie with Mateo Quirogaof of Georgia Southwestern. Björken birdied the second playoff hole to secure the win, his first tournament victory since winning the 2022 Otter Invitational.
The sophomore from Hudiksval, Sweden tallied 2 eagles, 11 birdies and 31 pars in the 54-hole tournament, hosted by Cal State San Bernardino.
As a team, CSUMB finished in a four-way tie for fifth at +21, 885. Florida Southern won the tournament with a +3, 867 team score.
This is Björken’s second CCAA Golfer of the Week honor. He last won the award when he won the Otter Invitational in the Fall of 2022.
CSUMB jumps back into action next week when it travels to Las Vegas for the Desert Classic Mar. 4–6 at the Boulder Creek Golf Club.
