San Francisco State’s Anthony Alvarez played all over the field this past week as he has been named CCAA Baseball Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 5-11.

At the plate, Alvarez hit for the cycle for the week and batted .400 (6 for 15) with .800 slugging and .500 on-base percentages. He had three singles, a double, a triple and a homer and drove in a total of 8 runs, and scored four times.

On the mound, the junior from Oxnard, picked up two wins in two relief outings with a scoreless inning in Tuesday’s win over Montana State-Billings and gave up a run on two hits for the win on Sunday versus Western Oregon.

Offensively, Alvarez had a big day on Sunday, going 3-for-5 with a grand slam dinger to help the Gators in a come-from-behind 12-11 win over WOU. His homer in the eighth got SF State within a run (10-9) after trailing 7-1 after six innings. Alvarez had at least a hit in each game during the week.

In four games, Alvarez pitched two innings, started at shortstop twice, manned third base on Saturday and was the designated hitter before moving to center field on Sunday.

SF State, which improved to 4-2, will travel south to face Azusa Pacific for four games starting on Thursday.
