Big blocks net Stan State’s Alex Byrd FloCollege/CCAA Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week

For the second time in three weeks, Alex Byrd from Stanislaus State has been named the FloCollege/CCAA Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week (Nov. 4-10).

Byrd helped lead the Warriors to a pair of wins as Stanislaus State clinched a spot in the upcoming 2024 CCAA Volleyball Tournament, Nov. 21-23 in Pomona, Calif. Byrd averaged 1.67 blocks per set (10 total), adding to her school record. 

The senior from Stockton started with two kills and five total blocks including three solos and a dig in Stan State's sweep of Humboldt. She finished with a five-kill, five-block, two-dig performance in the Warriors' sweep of Sonoma State as they clinched a spot in the CCAA Volleyball Championship.

Her performance raised her CCAA-leading average to 1.22 blocks per set (26th NCAA Div. II). Byrd also paces the conference in total blocks by five. Click here to see the complete CCAA leaderboard.

Stanislaus State will close out the regular season at home against Cal State East Bay (Nov. 15) and Cal State Monterey Bay (Nov. 16). The Warriors can earn the No. 3-6 seed in the CCAA Tournament.
