Alex Byrd from Stanislaus State has been named the FloCollege/CCAA Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 21-27.

Byrd averaged 1.75 blocks per set, which included a CCAA season-best of 11 blocks in a win over Cal State San Marcos. The senior middle blocker finished with 14 total blocks to become Stan State's all-time career record holder in total blocks with 313 in the D2ERA. She added three digs, 13 kills, and a .303 hitting percentage.

Her performance on Saturday against CSUSM was one of the best for a middle blocker all season. She had six solo blocks and five assists as the Warriors needed every point in the five-set victory. She added seven kills on 21 swings with just one error (.286 hitting percentage). Previously, Byrd had three blocks and six kills on Friday against No. 5 Cal Poly Pomona.

Byrd’s 1.75 blocks per set for the weekend would lead the nation (current leader 1.53). She is currently the CCAA leader in blocks per set (1.17) and total blocks (74). Click here to see the complete CCAA leaderboard.
