Last season,
Chico State regained its place as the CCAA Women’s Cross Country Champions after
Stanislaus State had stood on top of the hill for two years. Now, in 2024, will it be the Wildcats starting a new streak, the Warriors retaking back the title, or will there be a new champion in 2024?
Chico State enters the championships ranked first in the West Region and No. 12 in NCAA Division II. Twins
Della and Iresh Molina lead the Wildcats. Both have earned two CCAA Runner of the Week honors, including when they crossed holding hands at the Kim Duyst Twilight Invitational. Chico State will also return
Sophie Pelletier, Hannah Wirth, and
Jaclyn Denham, each of whom earned All-CCAA honors last season and had a top-15 finish.
Cal Poly Pomona is ranked fifth in the region and 21st in the USTFCCCA national poll. The Broncos placed third last season, with three runners earning All-CCAA honors. Vivian Martinez is back to lead the team after placing eighth at the 2023 championships. The Broncos have some experienced returners, including
Jade Kingston, Lauren Jauregui, Chloe Alchin, and
Arissa Hatcher, who all ran in last year’s CCAA Championships.
Jacqueline Sanchez and
Annie Wild are back for a
Stanislaus State squad, which is ranked sixth in the west and 27th in Div. II. Last season, Stan State placed second with 61 points as all five of its runners placed in the top 20.
The CCAA will also see a new individual champion this year, with
Sonoma State’s Gianna Bomarito not scheduled to compete. Her Seawolves teammate
Constance O’Neal might be one of the favorites to take over Bomarito’s lead in the front of the pack. O’Neal has earned two CCAA Runner of the Week awards after winning two races this season.
Cal State San Marcos,
Cal State Monterey Bay, and
Cal State East Bay finished 4-6 last season and will look to move into the top 3 this year.
Cal Poly Humboldt and
Cal State San Bernardino placed sixth and eighth in the CCAA preseason poll. Both will have a chance to improve on those places with good performances at Woodward Park.
Anika Pettinger is back for
San Francisco State after earning an All-CCAA selection with a 14th-place finish in 2023.
Cal State LA will round out the 11-team field.
