For the second time in three weeks, Andrew Portis of Cal State LA has been selected as the FloCollege/CCAA Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
As a defender, Portis headed-in two game-winners in the Golden Eagles’ wins over Sonoma State and Cal Poly Humboldt last week. His header in the 49th minute against the Seawolves was the only goal in the 1-0 decision on Friday. On Sunday, with the match tied, the graduate student from Temecula, Calif., headed in the winner in the 85th minute for the 2-1 win.
Portis played in all 90 minutes and was part of the defense that allowed only two shots on goal in two matches. Cal State LA now has six shutouts. Portis now leads the CCAA with four game-winning goals.
