Andrew Portis of Cal State LA has been named the CCAA Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, for the week of Sept. 22-29.

Portis, a defender, scored his second goal of the season on a nifty shot in the box after a corner kick to lead the Golden Eagles to a 2-0 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday. He spearheaded a defensive effort that limited the Toros to only seven shots and just three on goal.

The graduate student from Temecula, Calif., played all 90 minutes to help the No. 3 Golden Eagles post their fifth shutout in six games this season. Cal State LA stretched its unbeaten streak to 20 dating back last season.
