Free throw machine Kalaya Buggs of Cal Poly Pomona earns this week’s CCAA Player of the Week award

Kalaya Buggs of Cal Poly Pomona scored 60 points, plus a game-winning free throw to earn this week’s CCAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week award.

Buggs improved her scoring total on the year to a team-high 252 points with a 25-point game against Cal State Dominguez Hills and a career-high 35-point game against Cal State LA. On Thursday, she was clinical from the free-throw line, collecting 15 of her 25 points in a 80-70 win against the Toros. On Saturday, she scored the game-winning free throw as well as 13 points in the last four minutes of the game to secure the 79-76 win over the Golden Eagles.

The junior guard from Compton went 15 for 26 from the field and 23 for 27 from the free throw line. She also had 11 rebounds, seven assists, and six steals on the weekend. 

Buggs is 11th in scoring in the CCAA (14.0), second in free throw percentage (.840), 25th in 3-point field goals per game (1.2), third in assists (4.3), fourth in assist/turnover ratio (1.3), sixth in steals (2.1), and eighth in minutes (32.2). Click here to see the CCAA leaderboard.

Cal Poly Pomona (13-5, 9-4 CCAA) travels to Cal State San Marcos (Thursday) and Sonoma State (Saturday) this weekend looking to keep their four-game win streak alive.
