41-point performance leads Toros’ Jeremy Dent-Smith to second CCAA Player of the Week Award Jan 30, 2024 Share: Complete list of weekly winners >>> After scoring 69 points in two games, Cal State Dominguez Hills’ Jeremy Dent-Smith has been selected as the CCAA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 22-28. Dent-Smith led the Toros to two impressive road wins as Cal State Dominguez Hills pushed its winning streak to seven games and took a two-game lead in the CCAA standings. The sophomore guard shot .645 percent from the field (20-of-31) and 10-of-15 from 3-point range. He also went 19-of-22 from the free throw line, adding 10 rebounds, seven assists, and six steals. In a 101-87 overtime win at Cal Poly Pomona, Dent-Smith scored a career-high 41 points, including tying the school record with nine 3-pointers (9-of-13). The 41 points are the fourth-most in conference history. Dent-Smith also came through with the clutch moment of the game as he hit a 3-pointer, down 87-84 with three seconds left, to send the game to overtime. In the extra period, he hit three 3-pointers as the Toros outscored the Broncos 14-0. Dent-Smith followed up his record-breaking performance with a 28-point, eight-rebound effort against defending CCAA Champions, Cal State San Bernardino. The Hawthorne native went 8-of-11 from the field and 11-of-12 at the line. In the final four minutes, Dent-Smith scored eight points, with two rebounds, two steals, and two assists to allow the Toros to extend a three-point lead into a 10-point margin of victory. He is now second in the CCAA, scoring 16.1 points per game. Dent-Smith also ranks fourth in free throw percentage (.800) and fifth in 3-pointers per game (1.89). The Toros will be on the road again this week when they travel to Cal State Monterey Bay (Feb. 1) and Stanislaus State (Feb. 3). They hold a two-game lead in the CCAA standings with nine games left in the regular season.
