Coyotes’ Chris Mitchell collects CCAA Player of the Week honors Jan 23, 2024 Share: Complete list of weekly winners >>> Cal State San Bernardino’s Chris Mitchell has been voted the CCAA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 15-21. Mitchell averaged 20.5 points and 9.5 rebounds to lead the Coyotes to a pair of road wins, and keep CSUSB (13-4, 8-3 CCAA) within one game of first place in the CCAA standings. The junior guard opened the week with a 10-point, six-rebound effort in a win at Cal State Monterey Bay. Then on Saturday, he posted a double-double with 31 points and 13 rebounds against Stanislaus State. He went 11-of-21 from the field and had five offensive rebounds. The 31 points matched Chico State’s Joshua Hamilton and Adam Afifi for the most points scored in a CCAA game this season. He is the only player to record a double-double while scoring 30 points in 2023-24. Mitchell’s 16.1 scoring average has him just 0.1 points off the conference lead. He is also eighth in rebounds (6.9) and fourth in field goal percentage (.516). Click here to see the CCAA leaderboard. This is the first career CCAA Player of the Week honor for Mitchell who began his career at Cal Poly Pomona. Cal State San Bernardino will be tested in a pair of home games this week as it faces the two teams sitting at the top of the CCAA standings; Cal State LA and Cal State Dominguez Hills. The Golden Eagles will come to town on Thursday, Jan. 25 and the Toros will be at Coussoulis Arena on Saturday, Jan. 27.
