Emilia Long’s homecoming was nothing short of spectacular as she made Cal Poly Humboldt history to earn this week’s honor as the Pixellot/CCAA Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
Long scored four goals — three in the second half, including the game-winner — to lead the Lumberjacks to a thrilling come-from-behind 4-3 win over Seattle Pacific. It was Humboldt’s first ever victory over the regional powerhouse Falcons.
With her team trailing 3-1 at halftime, Long, who had scored the equalizer at 1-1, scored in the 51st minute to cut the deficit to one. The junior forward, who is from Seattle suburb Port Angeles, Wash., tied the match for the second time in the 78th minute to make it 3-3. Finally, with two seconds remaining in the match, Long made a long run and scored from 7-yards out for the game-winner.
Long is the first Lumberjack to score four times in a match in program history.
Cal Poly Humboldt started the season 2-0-0 for the first time since 2017. The Lumberjacks are undefeated since an early August trip to Australia (6-0-1), including exhibition contests.
