Chico State’s Emanual Padilla recorded two clean sheets to win the Pixellot/CCAA Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week award to start the 2023 campaign.

Padilla shutout two formidable GNAC opponents as Chico State earned a pair of 2-0 victories against Seattle Pacific and Western Washington. WWU (12-4-3 in 2022) was picked to win a share of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference title.

In Thursday’s opener, Padilla picked up four saves against SPU in his Wildcat debut. He also posted an assist on a Miles Rice goal against the Falcons. The junior from Santa Rosa, who transferred from Santa Rosa Junior College, then blanked Western Washington on Saturday.

Chico State takes its 2-0 record north across the border this weekend to take on Simon Fraser and Saint Martin’s in British Columbia.
