Cal State LA’s Thaiz Hernandez contributed on both sides of the ball as she has picked up the initial Pixellot/CCAA Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
Hernandez, a junior defender from Hemet, was part of all three Golden Eagles’ goals for the week and was key to the team’s shutout victory at No. 15 Concordia. On Thursday, She assisted on a second-half goal by Delia Bocanegra in the team’s 1-0 win at Concordia. Then, on Saturday, she scored both goals on a penalty kick and free kick to help Cal State LA to a 2-2 draw at No. 18 Point Loma. She played the full 90 minutes in each contest.
The two-goal game was Hernandez’s first in her career as she helped the No. 24 ranked Golden Eagles snap a three-match losing streak against Point Loma. This is Hernandez’s second CCAA player of the week award. She earned the honor last Oct. 4.
Cal State LA (1-0-1) travels to Bellingham, Wash., for a single-match road trip at Western Washington on Saturday.
