Sonoma State’s Avery Foster has earned the honor as the CCAA Women’s Golfer of the Week, for the week of Sept. 20-26.

Foster was the runner-up at the D2 54 for IX event hosted by Westminster University at the Glenmoor Golf Club in South Jordan, Utah. The sophomore from Clovis shot a nine-over par 225 (80-71-74) in the three-round, two-day event. She was five strokes back of medalist Brady Turnquist from Biola.

Sonoma State won the team championship by six strokes over Biola. The Seawolves totaled 923 over three days in their first tournament of the season.

Foster’s second round of 71 is the second lowest single-round score of the tournament. She shot six birdies with 35 par over 54 holes. Foster was making her Sonoma State debut after spending her freshman season at Reedley College. This marks the second straight week that a CCAA newcomer has been named the golfer of the week.

The Seawolves will host the Sonoma State Fall Invitational next week, Oct. 2-3, at the Santa Rosa Golf and Country Club, the site of the 2023 CCAA Golf Championships.
