Chico State’s Tyler Ashman’s impressive final round led to win and CCAA Men’s Golfer of the Week award

Tyler Ashman of Chico State made a huge leap in the final round to win the tournament, earning him the CCAA Men’s Golfer of the Week award.

Ashman came into the third and final round of the Western Washington Invitational tied for eighth place. By the end of the day, the senior from Clovis took home medalist honors. He shot an impressive career-best 67 on Tuesday to shoot to the top of the leaderboard. Ashman’s five-under score included six birdies as he edged out Northwest Nazarene’s Kasey Gaff. 

In all, Ashman recorded an eagle, 12 birdies and 32 pars for his 3-under 213 (75-70-67) total. His eagle came in round one on the par 5, 523-yard No. 11 hole of the par 72, 6610 yard Bellingham Golf and Country Club.
He and the Wildcats finished fourth at 15-over 879, six back of winner Simon Fraser.

This is Ashman’s second career Golfer of the Week award. He earned this honor on Sept. 29, 2021, after a fourth-place finish at the WWU Invitational in Blaine, Wash.

Chico State hosts the Wildcat Invitational next week, Oct. 2-3, at Butte Creek Country Club in Chico.
