Daniel Hernandez of Chico State races to win to capture Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week honor

Chico State’s Daniel Hernandez has been picked as the CCAA Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week, after winning the Cougar Challenge on Saturday.

Hernandez took first place at the event held at Cal State San Marcos in a time of 24:27.4, leading the Wildcats to a team championship. The junior from Vacaville posted an average mile time of 4:55.2 and was one of four Chico State runners to finish in the top 10.

In his only other race so far this season, Hernandez placed second on Sept. 8, at the Ash Creek Festival in Monmouth, Ore.

Chico State will next compete at the San Francisco State Invitational on Friday, Oct. 6, at Golden Gate Park.
