Riley Beyma becomes first Seawolf to win CCAA Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week

Sonoma State’s Riley Beyma was named the CCAA Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 11-17. 

The junior defensive specialist recorded 36 digs over seven sets (5.14 digs/set) to help lead the Seawolves (7-2) to a 2-0 start in conference play. 

Against No. 10 Cal State San Bernardino, Beyma averaged 5.67 digs per set as the Seawolves pulled off the upset with a three-set sweep. She helped lead a defensive effort that held CSUSB over 50 points below their season hitting percentage (.280 vs. .228). On Saturday, she was one dig short of matching a season-best with 19 in a win over San Francisco State.

Sonoma State has a tough week ahead as it heads on the road to face Chico State on Friday (Sept. 22) and Stanislaus State on Saturday (Sept. 23).
