For the second time this season, Cal Poly Pomona’s Daniel Echeveste has been selected as the CCAA Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week.
The junior from Pomona earned the award after a 17th place finish at the 42nd annual UCR Invitational in Riverside on Saturday. Echeveste ran a personal best 24:10.9 in the 8K race, besting his PR by 39 seconds. The time was the second best among Division Ii runners and third best among all non-Division I collegiate athletes on the day.
Echeveste helped the 22nd-ranked Broncos to a fifth place finish in the team standings, behind three Division I programs and No. 16 Azusa Pacific.
Echeveste earned the weekly award two weeks ago after a runner-up finish to lead the Broncos to a team victory at the Seawolf Invite in Fresno.
Next on the schedule for Cal Poly Pomona is Saturday’s Cougar Challenge at Cal State San Marcos.
