Gianna Bomarito sets another Sonoma State record to be named Runner of the Week

Gianna Bomarito of Sonoma State captured her second career win as she has been named the CCAA Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week, for week of Sept. 4-10.

Bomarito took first at the Ash Creek Festival in Monmouth, Ore., in a time of 17:12.2 in the 5K race. The site is this year’s West Region championship meet on Nov. 4. Bomarito set a new Sonoma State record in a 5K run by 18 seconds. On Friday, she finished ahead of second place runner, Riley Buese of Lewis & Clark, by nearly 41 seconds.

The sophomore from Fresno won the Paul Short Invite, a 6K run, last Sept. 30 in Bethlehem, Pa. She was the runner-up at the 2022 CCAA Championships in Carmel.

This is Bomarito’s third CCAA Runner of the Week selection. She took the prize twice last season as a freshman.

Sonoma State is taking part in the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn., on Sept. 22.
