Toros' Sulaiman Bah voted 2022-23 CCAA Male Athlete of the Year

Jun 13, 2023

The CCAA Male Athlete of the Year award for the third consecutive season goes to a men's soccer student-athlete. This time, Cal State Dominguez Hills' Sulaiman Bah took home the honor after an incredible sophomore season.

Bah led the Toros to an undefeated regular season and the program's first CCAA regular-season championship since 2015. He posted 48 points during the season, finishing fourth in NCAA Division II with goals (18), eighth in assists (12), and third in points.

The Bo, Sierra Leone native, put together one of the greatest offensive seasons in conference history. He was named the CCAA Offensive Player of the Year and the West Region Player of the Year by both D2CCA and the United Soccer Coaches.

His 18 goals were 10 more than any student-athlete and more than four different conference teams during the 2022 campaign. Bah's seven game-winning assists ranked second in NCAA Division II. Ten of his goals came in CCAA play, including four game-winners. He posted five multi-goal matches, and seven times he had a goal and an assist in the same game. Only five matches all season (22 total) did Bah not record a point.

Bah  collected five of the CCAA's 10 Offensive Player of the Week awards, including four in the last five weeks of the regular season. When he earned the weekly honor in 2021, he became the first Toro to win the award since 2017.

His efforts helped lead CSUDH to the 2022 CCAA regular-season championship and a place in the NCAA West Super Regional. It was the Toros' first NCAA postseason berth since 2017.

Bah is Cal State Dominguez Hills' first CCAA Male Athlete of the Year since Kevin Gallaugher in 2008-09, and the fifth Toro overall in an award that dates back to 1964-65. Click here to see the complete list of past CCAA Athletes of the Year.
