Chico State’s Taylor Stewart posted her first victory as a Wildcat en route to being named CCAA Women’s Golfer of the Week, for the week of March 29-April 4.

Stewart was the individual medalist at the SSU Spring Women’s Invite at Santa Rosa Golf and Country Club. The junior from Oakdale shot a personal best low round of 70 on Tuesday to win by two strokes with a 1-over 145 total.

Chico State finished fifth as a team with host Sonoma State (614) the tournament team champions.

Beginning the day tied for third place overall, Stewart began the final 18 holes with a par and a bogey. For the reminder of the round, though, she was on fire, shooting a 3-under par to finish with a 2-under 70 on Tuesday. She came within a stroke of the program’s lowest two-round score.

With the tournament victory, Stewart became the first Wildcat in more than six years to claim medalist honors. She earned the program’s first CCAA Golfer of the Week award back on Oct. 12 after tying for second at the WWU Invitational in Bellingham, Wash., with a 1-over 145.

Chico State will join the rest of the conference at the CCAA Men’s & Women’s Golf Championships, April 17-19, at Victoria Club in Riverside.
