Cal State East Bay senior Ryan Hong wins tournament to earn CCAA Men’s Golfer of the Week award Mar 8, 2023 Share: Complete list of weekly winners >>> Ryan Hong of Cal State East Bay earned medalist honors on Tuesday to capture the CCAA Men’s Golfer of the Week award. (Mar. 1-7) After tying for the leaderboard after two scheduled rounds of play, the senior from Rancho Cucamonga birdied the first playoff hole to win the NNU Nighthawk Invitational at Poppy Ridge Golf Course in Livermore. Hong had shot a 2-under 70 on Tuesday to jump up to tie for first with Holy Names’ Edvin Backstrom. Both finished the 36-hole tournament with 143 (-1) scores. It was Hong’s first collegiate tournament victory. For the tournament, Hong turned in seven birdies, not counting the playoff hole. He and the Pioneers finished second in the tournament, hosted by Northwest Nazarene, and won by Holy Names. Cal State East Bay will serve as host of next week’s event, the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout in Alameda, March 13-14.
