Cal State San Bernardino is advancing to the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball semifinal game after earning an 88-70 win over Lincoln Memorial in the 4/5 matchup at the Elite Eight. (Mar. 21)
 
Darius Mickens scored 22 points to pace four Yotes with 15 or more points. The senior guard went 9-of-16 from the field while grabbing six rebounds and posting three steals. However, the player of the game for CSUSB was Mahmoud Fofana.
 
The sophomore forward came off the bench four minutes into the game and scored a career-high 18 points while matching his career-best with 14 rebounds to post his first double-double in a CSUSB uniform. He was also a presence in the paint defensively with a steal, two blocks, and many other altered shots. The San Jose native finished the game 6-of-10 from the field and 6-of-7 at the line.
 
Dontrell Shuler led the team with three 3-pointers, finishing with 18 points. His backcourt mate, Brandon Knapper, posted 15 points and a game-high five assists. Matthew Sells and Me'Kell Burries led LMU with 16 points apiece.
 
Apart from the great individual performances, the Yotes also utilized timely runs right before the half and coming out of the break to clinch the program's first NCAA Elite Eight win since defeating Wingate in 2007. Trailing 26-22 with five minutes left in the half, CSUSB went on an 18-5 run to take a 40-31 halftime lead.
 
After intermission, Cal State San Bernardino hit its first three 3-point shots and scored on its first four possessions. A jumper by Knapper pushed the lead to 16 points (57-41) with 15:00 remaining. The teams then traded baskets over the next two minutes before CSUSB went on a 10-0 run extending their lead to 23 (72-49). The Railsplitters would not get closer than the final margin of victory (18) the rest of the way.
 
Cal State San Bernardino showed why they are the nation's No. 1 rebounding team, outrebounding Lincoln Memorial 50-35 and outscoring it 17-12 on second-chance points. CSUSB committed a season-low seven turnovers in the win. It also held LMU to 8-of-35 from behind the arc (.229%) and to .343 percent overall.
 
The Yotes will advance to play undefeated Nova Southeastern (34-0), the nation's top seed. The teams will tip off in their semifinal matchup on Thursday, Mar. 23 at 1:30 p.m. PST. ncaa.com/game/6131070
