Madison Murr is having a good start to the spring season. The Cal State San Marcos Cougar picked up the latest CCAA Women’s Golfer of the Week award, for Feb. 22-28.
Murr, and the rest of the field, managed to get in 18 holes in before the second round of Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout was canceled due to heavy winds and rain in Alameda. She shot a 1-over 73 to finish second behind winner Alli Kim of Point Loma. The sophomore from Los Alamitos opened the tournament with two eagles, two birdies, a par and a bogey in the first six holes before the first stoppage of play was called due to lightning in the area.
Cal State San Marcos came in second as a team with a +24, 312 behind host Cal State East Bay (306). The tournament was held at Corcia Golf Club in Alameda.
This was Murr’s second golfer of the week award this spring season. She had finished runner-up in the Cougars’ previous outing in Bakersfield to begin the spring season.
The Cougars will return to the links on March 6-7 when they host the CSUSM Fujikura Invitational at Shadowridge Golf Club in Vista.
