Cal State San Marcos’ Madison Murr started the spring with a great performance at a Division I tournament to earn the latest CCAA Women’s Golfer of the Week award.

Murr was one of three golfers to finish tied for second at The Valley Invitational, hosted by Cal State Bakersfield, at the Bakersfield Country Club. She shot a four-over 220, in a three-round event, to come in one stroke behind medalist Riana Mission of USF.

The sophomore from Los Alamitos led the No. 11 Cougars to a share of 11th place in the field featuring all NCAA Division I programs. CSUSM was the only non-DI team in the tournament.

Murr’s 4-over score was a collegiate career-best in a three-round tournament. She shot a tournament-low 69 in Tuesday’s third and final round, which featured four birdies in the front nine. She also led the field of 77 golfers with 40 pars.

The Cougars will return to the links on Feb. 27-28 when they travel up to the Bay Area for Cal State East Bay’s Tim Tierney Pioneer Invitational.
