The shooter from down-under continues to light-up the scoreboard as Levi Frankland has earned his second Men’s Basketball Player of the Week award.
A senior from Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, Frankland averaged 29.5 points per game to lead Cal State Monterey Bay to a weekend split for him to win the weekly award for the week of Jan. 30-Feb. 5. Frankland scored a career-high 35 points (11 for 25 shooting with five three-pointers) to lead CSUMB over Cal State LA in overtime on Saturday. Two days earlier, he put-up 24 points in a losing effort against Cal State San Marcos.
Frankland extended his streak of 20-plus games to six to become the first Otter to do so since Davion Berry did it in 2011. During the six-game span, Frankland scored 154 points to average 25.7 points per game.
Among the CCAA leaders, Frankland is fifth in scoring at 17.1 points per clip counting all games. He’s third best, behind Jaylen Wells of Sonoma State and Brandon Knapper of CSUSB, at 17.7 points per conference game.
Frankland received the player of the week award two weeks ago, for Jan. 16-22, when he averaged 24.5 points a game to lead CSUMB to wins over Chico State and Stanislaus State.
Cal State Monterey Bay, winner of six of its last seven games, will travel to take on front-runner Cal State San Bernardino on Thursday before facing Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday.
