San Francisco State’s Eche Okeke led the Gators to a pair of key victories as he was selected as the season’s final Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Okeke averaged 19.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game to propel SF State to two two-point wins to earn the No. 3 seed in the CCAA Basketball Tournament. The Gators posted a 62-60 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills Thursday and a 79-77 overtime thriller victory over Cal State East Bay Saturday.
The junior forward netted 16 points, on 6 of 13 shooting, with four rebounds, five assists, two steals and blocked two shots against CSUDH. The standout from Hayward scored a double-double with a career-best 23 points (8 for 14 with two three points) to go with 11 boards, two assists, two steals and a blocked shot in the extra-time win over CSUEB. He was 9 for 9 at the free throw line in two games.
Okeke is San Francisco State’s first men’s basketball player of the week winner since Feb. 10-16, 2020 when Linton Acliese earned the honor.
SF State, which qualified for the CCAA Championship event for the first time since 2019, is the No. 3 seed and the Gators will face No. 6 Chico State in the opening game of the tournament Thursday at Noon in Turlock.
