Lily Buggs of Cal State LA has earned her second CCAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week award after leading the Golden Eagles to a pair of wins.
Buggs averaged a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds in Cal State LA’s wins over Sonoma State and Cal Poly Humboldt. The wins helped the Golden Eagles secure the No. 3 seed in the upcoming CCAA Basketball Tournament in Turlock.
The sophomore guard from Long Beach scored 15 points with six rebounds, four assists and three steals in Thursday’s win over Sonoma State. Buggs had the assist on the game’s go-ahead three-pointer with 2.6 seconds left and made a steal in SSU’s final possession.
Saturday against Humboldt, Buggs turned in a season-high 29 points with 14 rebounds for her 12th double-double of the season. She made four late free throws to help solidify the victory.
Buggs was the CCAA women’s basketball player of the week in week one back on Nov. 14 when she averaged 21 points and 11 rebounds a game against Concordia and Biola.
Cal State LA, the No. 3 seed in the CCAA Tournament, will face No. 6 Sonoma State Thursday in the first quarterfinal game at 5:30 p.m. in Turlock.
