With the best opening round score, Drishti Karumbaya of Cal State East Bay has been named the CCAA Women’s Golfer of the Week, for Feb. 15-21.

Karumbaya was the co-winner in the wind-shortened Bay Area Invitational after shooting an even 72 on Monday. Cal State East Bay was the top team in the tournament, hosted by Holy Names, with a +14, 302 tally.

The tournament, originally scheduled for Livermore’s Las Positas Golf Course, was moved to The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton. After a round of play, the tournament was canceled on Tuesday due to heavy winds that made the course unplayable.

On Monday, Karumbaya, a senior from Mysore, India, was the top player with a 72 by way of three birdies and 12 par shots. Holy Names’ Ebba Wernered also shot a 72 as co-leader.

This marks the fourth career CCAA golfer of the week award for Karumbaya. She won this honor twice last season and once in the Fall of 2019.

Cal State East Bay is in action next at its own tournament, the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout, Feb. 27-28, in Alameda.
