Cal State Dominguez Hills’ Dawnyel Lair has been selected as the CCAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the fourth time this season after leading the Toros to a regular season championship.
Lair had two outstanding all-around performances to lead the Toros as they claimed the 2022-23 CCAA regular season title with wins over formidable foes Cal State San Marcos and Cal State LA. She averaged 15.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 5.5 steals per game. Lair shot 65 percent for the week, hitting 13 of 20 shots.
The senior guard from Los Angeles posted a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds, with six assists and seven steals against No. 14 Cal State San Marcos on Thursday. On Saturday, she netted 16 points with seven rebounds, five assists and four steals in a narrow 64-61 victory over Cal State L.A. in the title clinching game. In the game versus LA, Lair scored 12 points during a key 20-13 run in the third quarter to rally against the Golden Eagles.
This is Lair’s fourth CCAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week award this season. She was named the D2CIDA National Player of the Week (Jan. 9-15) after averaging 19.5 points and 15.5 rebounds in two games.
Lair continues to lead the CCAA as the top shooter, with a .628 field goal percentage. She leads in rebounding at 8.7 per game and is fourth in scoring at 15.0 per game.
Cal State Dominguez Hills, which has secured the top seed in the conference tournament, wraps up its regular season on the road this week at San Francisco State and Cal State Monterey Bay.
