Anthony Accordino exploded at the plate last week as he powered the Cal State Dominguez Hills offense to earn this week’s CCAA Baseball Player of the Week honor.
Accordino went 8-for-13 with three doubles, drove in seven runs in the Toros’ four-game series sweep over New Mexico Highlands. After starting the season 0-for-12, the junior first baseman batted .615 against the Cowboys to help CSUDH out-score NMHU 44-4. He had a .845 slugging percentage and was on-base 13 times in 18 plate appearances (.722)
The junior from Anaheim collected two hits in each game and drove in two runs in three of the four games played. He also scored a total of five runs and drew a walk in each contest. His single in the third inning of the series opener keyed a rally to help CSUDH take the lead — a lead they never relinquished the rest of the series.
The Toros’s next opponent is Azusa Pacific, in Azusa, on Tuesday, Feb. 28.
