This fall, 454 male and female student-athletes from the CCAA's 12 institutions earned an academic honor roll recognition with a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.3.
The 454 selections are a conference record, eclipsing the previous mark of 426 from 2020, where some eligibility standards were waived due to the pandemic.
Chico State led the way with 49 honor roll selections. Cal State San Marcos was just behind with 48 honorees, followed closely by San Francisco State and Cal State East Bay with 46 apiece. Cal Poly Humboldt (40), Cal State Monterey Bay (40), and Cal Poly Pomona (42) also had at least 40 student-athletes earn academic recognition.
Of the 454 honorees, 165 were making a repeat appearance, and 24 earned the honor for the fourth time in their careers. Cal Poly Humboldt led the way here, with 26 of their 42 student-athletes earning a repeat selection.
Women's soccer paced the way among the sports with 149 total selections, followed by men's soccer with 105. Volleyball was right behind, with 103 honorees. Men's cross country and women's cross country complete the list with 37 and 58 student-athletes, respectively. Men's soccer saw the most significant increase in numbers, jumping up 33 total selections from last fall. Women's cross country had the largest percentage increase, with its honor roll expanding by 65 percent this year.
The CCAA recognizes individuals academically per season – fall, winter and spring – for all CCAA-sponsored sports. The CCAA Fall Academic Honor Roll consists of eligible student-athletes who compete in the sports of men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer, and volleyball. The Winter Academic Honor Roll will honor men's and women's basketball players, with the Spring Academic Honor Roll consisting of student-athletes from men's and women's golf, men's and women's track and field, softball, and baseball. The remainder of the seasonal academic selections will be announced at the conclusion of the spring term after grades are finalized.
To be eligible for the honor, student-athletes must be of sophomore standing athletically at the start of the playing season and may include graduate students, shall have a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.3, and shall have competed in the sport in that season.
