In the spring season’s opening tournament, a pair of CCAA golfers finished second to share the CCAA Men’s Golfer of the Week honors.
Greg Mouser of Cal State San Marcos and Jacob Calderon of Cal State San Bernardino were runner-up finishers at the Cal State San Marcos Fujikura Invitational. They both shot a 2-under 214 in the three round tournament at Shadowridge Golf Club in Vista.
Mouser’s scorecard consisted of 71-71-72 scores while Calderon’s tallies were 70-68-76. They were seven strokes behind medalist Matt Millar of Colorado State-Pueblo.
Mouser, a sophomore from Fresno, recorded 12 birdies and 34 pars in the 54-hole event. He beat the course six times in the second round on Monday for his second 71 on the day. Mouser led the Cougars to a team victory with a 873 (+9) total, two shots ahead of CSU Pueblo.
Calderon, a senior from Indio, marked 10 birdies and 33 pars. He aced the 202-yard, par-3 No. 8 hole in round two on Monday to go with three birdies in the round for a 68, the second lowest score in the tournament. Calderon and the Yotes came in fourth in the team standings at 16-over 880.
Both CSUSM and CSUSB will compete next at the Battle in the Desert at La Quinta’s PGA West Resort Mountain Course in La Quinta. The tournament is hosted by Cal State San Bernardino.
