Defensive Player of the Week Awelina Fakalata becomes first Lumberjack to win a Volleyball weekly award

Cal Poly Humboldt’s Awelina Fakalata posted two double-doubles to earn the CCAA Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week award for Oct. 30-Nov. 5.

Fakalata became the first Lumberjack to ever win a CCAA volleyball player of the week award after a defensive week. She had 62 digs, three blocks and four aces to go with 36 kills to lead Humboldt to a 1-1 mark.

The junior outside hitter from Sacramento averaged 6.2 digs and 3.6 kills per set. She had 18 kills, 40 digs and three aces in a five-set thriller versus Chico State on Friday. On Saturday, Fakalata dug 22 balls with 18 kills in a five-set win over Stanislaus State.

Fakalata is third in the CCAA with 3.74 kills per set while ranks eighth with 3.50 digs per set. Her 4.31 points per set is fourth best in the conference. Click here to see the CCAA leaders.

Cal Poly Humboldt will finish the season this weekend on the road at Cal State San Bernardino and San Francisco State.
