Cal State LA’s Tommaso Belli named Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week

Cal State LA’s Tommaso Belli scored a brace in the regular season finale to be selected as Pixellot/CCAA Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.

Belli scored twice — the match’s go-ahead goal twice with the second the eventual game-winner — to help the No 4 ranked Golden Eagles beat Cal State Dominguez Hills, 4-2. Wth the win, Cal State LA completed the campaign with 10-1 conference record after it captured its ninth CCAA regular season title last Sunday.

The senior midfielder from Rome, Italy, knocked in a goal in the 43rd minute to give LA a 2-1 halftime lead. With the score even at 2-2, Belli scored the eventual game-winner in the 77th minute, just 75 seconds after CSUDH tied the score. He played in just 33 minutes off the bench for the Golden Eagles.

Cal State LA will rest this weekend as the top seed in the CCAA Men’s Soccer Tournament. The Golden Eagles advanced to the semifinal match, next Friday, in Arcata. They will face the winner of the Cal State San Marcos at Chico State match, taking place on Sunday in Chico.
