Alli McDonald led Sonoma State to two dominant wins against a pair of GNAC opponents last week to earn this week’s CCAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week award.
McDonald was just shy of two double-double games and averaged 20 points and 8.5 rebounds as the Seawolves posted victories over Saint Martin’s and Western Oregon. The junior from Diamond Springs shot 50 percent from the field (12 for 24) and made 7 of 14 three-point attempts. She also converted on 9 of 10 free throw tries to go with five assists, two steals and a blocked shot. Of her 17 rebounds, five were offensive boards.
On Friday against Saint Martin’s, McDonald scored 18 points with nine rebounds in the 68-50 win over Saint Martin’s. Saturday night, she had one of her most efficient games of her career with 22 points in just 21 minutes of play. She made a season-high five three-pointers and also had eight rebounds in SSU’s 79-57 win over Western Oregon.
McDonald now has garnered four CCAA player of the week awards. She picked up this weekly honor three times last season.
Sonoma State (3-1) hosts Academy of Art Wednesday afternoon at 5 p.m. at the Wolves’ Den and will be off over the Thanksgiving weekend.
