PUEBLO, Colo. - A memorable season for the Chico State men's soccer team came to an end in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Super-Region 4. The Wildcats scored first, but Colorado State Pueblo scored late to send the match to overtime, where it scored in double OT to earn the 2-1 win.
Noah Ross gave Chico State the lead 15 minutes into the second half on a beautiful header off a corner kick from Adrian Fontanelli. It was Fontanelli's CCAA-leading 10th assist of the season and the third goal for Ross.
Chico held the lead till the 82nd minute when the ThunderWolves answered a header goal of their own off a cross from Will Boyle. He was able to find Gabriel Campora for his 18th goal.
Neither team found the net again for the rest of regulation or the first overtime. Jack Pascoe delivered the game-winner two minutes into the second overtime. Kenshin Uneo took the ball across the field from 30 yards out, and as he did, he found Pascoe at the top of the box. As he turned, he had enough space to get a good look at the goal and put it away from the keeper and perfectly into the top corner of the net.
Emanuel Padilla finished with five saves for Chico State, and Ryan Nun had two for CSU Pueblo.
It was a magical year for Chico State, which rose to No. 3 in the national rankings after putting together a 13-match unbeaten streak, which included eight consecutive wins, to open the season. The Wildcats completed the season at 11-2-7.
