Della Molina of Chico State named CCAA Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week

Chico State’s Della Molina has been named the CCAA Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week, for the week of Oct. 2-8.

At the San Francisco State Invitational at Golden Gate Park on Friday, Molina placed fifth as the top CCAA finisher in a time of 21.54.2. She and her twin sister Iresh Molina paced the Wildcats to a narrow team victory, edging Concordia-Irvine by two points, 57-59. Iresh was sixth in 21:59.2 as the twin sisters represented the Wildcats in the top 10.

The womens’ 6K was won by Alaska Fairbanks’ Rosie Fordham in 21:25.9. Former Stanislaus State standout Najwa Chouati was second in 21:33.5.

Della Molina, who is from Chico and went to high school across the street from Chico State at Chico High School, posted an average mile time of 5:52.5. This was her third top-five finish this season after a third place showing last week in San Marcos and a fourth finish mark on Sept. 8 in Monmouth, Ore.

Chico State will next compete at the CCAA Cross Country Championships, Oct. 21, in Fremont. The Wildcats finished second in each of the last two seasons after a 12-year winning streak.
