For the second straight week, Daniel Hernandez of Chico State is the CCAA Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week.
At the San Francisco State Invitational at Golden Gate Park, Hernandez captured his second victory of the season in a time of 24:42.0 in the men’s 8K. He led the Wildcats to another team title with six runners in the top 10 for 22 points. The sophomore from Vacaville posted an average mile time of 4:58.1 to finish ahead of teammate Mario Giannini by one second.
Hernandez has now finished in the top two in three races this Fall, including back-to-back wins. He took first last week at the Cougar Challenge in San Marcos. On Sept. 8, he was second, behind Giannini, at the Ash Creek Collegiate Invite in Monmouth, Ore.
Chico State will take some time off before competing at the CCAA Championships, Oct. 21, in Fremont. The Wildcats will be looking to extend their streak of winning 20 consecutive conference titles.
