Emma Hord of Cal State San Marcos has been named the Pixellot/CCAA Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 23-29.

Hord put away her first goal of the season and played 178 minutes in the Cougars’ matches against Cal State San Bernardino on Friday and Cal Poly Pomona on Sunday.

Her game-winning goal was an unassisted shot over the Mustang goalkeeper’s head after winning the ball in a defensive battle in the 19th minute. On defense, Hord helped San Marcos secure a win and a tie, improving their unbeaten streak to 11 games.

The junior from Riverside has played 913 minutes this season and has started the last eight games for the Cougars. She has helped Cal State San Marcos allow only four goals over 10 conference matches.

This is Hord’s first career CCAA Player of the Week award. She is the third San Marcos student-athlete to earn the award this season.

Cal State San Marcos (6-0-4) plays in its final regular season match against Cal State East Bay on Thursday at 2:00 p.m.
