Cal State San Marcos’s Natalie Paulson has been named the Pixellot/CCAA Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 16-22.

Paulson was able to score two goals to help the Cougars earn a tie against Sonoma State and a win against Cal Poly Humboldt. On Friday, she scored against the Seawolves on a corner kick in the 70th minute by heading the ball into the left side of the net.

Her game-winning goal against the Lumberjacks came in just the second minute of the game on Sunday. She received a pass into the box where she was able to tap it in from six yards out into the left side of the goal. The sophomore from Long Beach contributed to the Cougars’ defensive efforts by helping keep both opponents to only eight shots total.

Paulson has played 1,213 minutes this season and every minute of San Marcos’s last five games. She is tied for the team high in goals and leads the team in game-winning goals.

This is Paulson’s first career CCAA Player of the Week award. She is the second recipient of the Women’s Soccer Player of the Week award for the Cougars this season.

Cal State San Marcos (5-0-3) plays in its next match against Cal State San Bernardino on Friday at 3:00 p.m.
