Cal State Monterey Bay’s Madi Blanc has been named the CCAA Women’s Golfer of the Week after winning the Westmont Invitational.
Blanc scored a two-over 146 in the two-round tournament hosted by Westmont at the Sandpiper Golf Club in Santa Barbara. She was consistent with two rounds of 73s to capture medalist honors while leading CSUMB to a second place team finish at 35-over 310, seven strokes behind Point Loma Nazarene.
The junior from Oakdale, who won by three strokes over PLNU’s Patrizia Schaefer, had entered the final round just one back of round one leader Trinity Ledgerwood of Hawaii Hilo. Blanc’s 73 on Tuesday was the tournament second lowest round score while Ledgerwood shot an 82.
Blanc became the first Otter to win the Women’s Golfer of the Week award since Isabel Carpenter earned the honor on Oct. 31, 2019. Blanc played at NAIA Marian University as a freshman and transferred home to Modesto Junior College as a sophomore when she led the Pirates to a JC state championship.
Cal State Monterey Bay is off until the trip to Hawaii, Oct. 23-28, for two tournaments in Waikoloa.
