Abby Borg of Cal Poly Humboldt has been named the Pixellot/CCAA Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 2-8.
Borg contributed to both shutouts for Humboldt’s two wins over San Francisco State and Cal State Monterey Bay. The sophomore defender from Tualatin, Ore. scored the game-winning goal against the Otters with only six minutes left in the game on Sunday. Humboldt had earned a corner kick and found a way to get a shot on goal. That shot was deflected by Monterey Bay’s keeper where Borg was then able to find the back of the net. It was her first career goal for the Lumberjacks.
She has played 863 minutes so far this season and has a goal and an assist. Borg has helped hold Humboldt’s opponents to only seven goals against.
This is Borg’s first career CCAA Player of the Week award. She is the second Lumberjack to win the award this season.
Cal Poly Humboldt (9-1-1) plays in its next conference match against Stanislaus State on Thursday at 12:30 p.m.
