CSUMB’S Levi Frankland’s consistent play earns him men’s basketball player of the week award

With a pair of 20-plus point games, Cal State Monterey Bay’s Levi Frankland has been picked as CCAA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, for the week of Jan. 16-22.

Frankland led the Otters to two wins for their first weekend sweep of the season with victories over Chico State and Stanislaus State. Frankland averaged 24.5 points and four rebounds per game.

Against Chico State on Thursday, the guard from Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, shot 10 for 15 (67 percent) with four three-pointers for a season-high 29 points. Two days later, against Stanislaus State, Frankland netted 20 points with four rebounds, three assists and two steals. He surpassed 500 career points in his second season as an Otter.

Frankland is ninth in the CCAA in scoring at 14.8 points per game. He is also 10th in field goal percentage at .437.

Cal State Monterey Bay, winner of its last three games, hits the road to take on Sonoma State on Thursday and Cal Poly Humboldt Saturday.
