Kobe Ordonio, who led Stan State to upset wins, picked as player of the week

Stanislaus State’s Kobe Ordonio has earned this week’s honor as the CCAA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, for the week of Jan. 9-15, after leading the Warriors to two big victories.

Ordonio scored 23 points in each game as Stan State upset No. 12 Cal State San Bernardino on Thursday and defeated Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday. It was the first time a Warrior team has defeated CSUSB and CPP on the same weekend. Stanislaus State moved up into sixth place in the CCAA standings going 4-1 in its last five games.

The senior guard from Seaside was 6 of 13 from the field and made four three-pointers (on seven tries) in the 94-84 upset win over CSUSB. The Warriors handed the Yotes their first conference loss of the season. Two days later, Ordonio led the Warriors’ comeback win over Cal Poly Pomona. In the games’ final five minutes, Ordonio scored 12 of his 23 points to out-paced the Broncos’ nine points.

Ordonio ranks eighth in the CCAA in scoring (15.3 ppg), 10th in FG percentage (.412) and fifth in free throw percentage (.780).

The Warriors will play on the road for the next two weekends, starting with a trip to San Francisco state on Thursday and Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday.
