Sonoma State’s Jaylen Wells has been selected as the CCAA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, for the week of Jan. 2-8, after averaging a double-double.
Wells averaged 21.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game to lead the Seawolves to two victories. It is Wells’ third player of the week honor this season.
The sophomore forward started the week with a double-double performance against San Francisco State, going 9 for 16 to score 23 points and pulled a career-high 13 rebounds. Two days later, Wells scored 20 points — his eighth 20-point game this season — to go with eight rebounds, three assists and two steals. He shot 57 percent (17 for 30) from the field in two games.
The Sacramento product continues to lead the CCAA in scoring with 21.2 points per game. He also leads the conference with 8.8 rebounds per contest.
The Seawolves (6-2 CCAA) ride a five-game winning streak into the week as they host Cal State San Marcos on Thursday and Cal State LA on Saturday.
