CCAA Offensive Player of the Week honor goes to Sonoma's Annette Sotelo Sep 7, 2022 Share: Complete list of weekly winners >>> Sonoma State’s Annette Sotelo entered last week without a point in her college career, but she ended the week with six points and the CCAA Offensive Player of the Week award. The freshman forward opened the week by scoring twice in a non-conference game against Academy of Art before posting the game-winner in a top 20 matchup against Western Washington. Sotelo registered her first career goal in the 32nd minute on Tuesday against the Urban Knights when she tapped in a cross set up by Lexi Zandonella-Arasa and Kapri McMillan to extend the Seawolves’ lead to 2-0. She added another goal less than four minutes later as she collected a rebounded shot and deposited it into the net for another insurance goal. Her first career game-winning goal came in No. 20, Sonoma State’s matchup against No. 10 Western Washington. The Vikings scored their first goal a minute before halftime to equalize the match at 1-1 and take momentum into the locker room. Sotelo brought the energy back to the Seawolves’ bench when she finished a cross from Malia Falk in the 52nd minute. From there, Sonoma State limited Western Washington to just two shots on goal to complete the nationally ranked win. Sotelo and Pritchard are the first Sonoma State student-athletes to earn CCAA women’s soccer weekly honors since Zandonella-Arasa on Sept. 20-26, 2021. Sonoma State will travel to Turlock on Thursday, Sept. 8, to face Stanislaus State in a non-conference matchup.
