All-around dominance earns Cal Poly Pomona’s Daisy Duke Defensive Player of the Week award

Cal Poly Pomona’s Daisy Duke has been picked as the CCAA Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, for the week of Aug. 29-Sept. 4.

Duke, who was stellar all around, in the Broncos’ three wins, at the Seaside Invitational at Point Loma, tallied 18 blocks and 18 digs in addition to her dominant offensive numbers.

Against Simon Fraser on Friday, the outside hitter had seven blocks and five digs in Pomona’s five-set win. Also on Friday, Duke posted eight blocks with eight digs to help the Broncos’ defensive efforts in the straight-set victory over Concordia. Lastly, Duke had three blocks, including a solo block, and five digs to help CPP beat Point Loma in three sets.

Offensively, the junior from Rancho Cucamonga, spiked 48 kills with an attacking percentage of .402. She had 102 attempts with seven errors while averaging 4.36 kills per set.

Duke, an All-CCAA first team selection in 2021, was the volleyball player of the week three times last season.

Cal Poly Pomona is on the road to start the conference season with matches at Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday and San Francisco State on Saturday.
