Emma Hofmann collects CCAA Defensive Player of the Week Sep 27, 2022 Share: Complete list of weekly winners >>> Emma Hofmann was named the CCAA Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week giving Chico State a sweep of this week’s conference awards. (Sept. 19-26) Hofmann made a season-high eight saves Friday to help lead the Wildcats to a 3-1 road win against 22nd-ranked Sonoma State. The goalkeeper added a trio of saves in a 1-0 shutout victory at San Francisco State as the Wildcats opened the conference campaign with a pair of impressive road wins. In Friday’s win at Sonoma State, Hofmann made six first-half saves as the Wildcats survived an early flurry against the two-time defending CCAA champions. The sophomore from Folsom (Folsom High School) faced six second-half corner kicks and two shots on goal in the second half but kept the Seawolves off the scoreboard. Sunday at San Francisco State, Hofmann faced seven shots and three corner kicks and saved three shots to preserve the shutout. Hofmann, who leads the California Collegiate Athletic Association in saves percentage (.862) and goals-against average (0.533), now has four shutouts this season and 14 just 26 matches into her collegiate career. Hofmann joins teammate Mackenzie Gill as this week’s CCAA award winners. They are the second pair of teammates to sweep weekly awards this season. The Wildcats will welcome the Broncos to Chico on Friday, Sept. 30, and will host Cal State LA on Sunday, Oct. 2.
