Sonoma State’s Colin Huang grabs season’s first Men’s Golfer of the Week honor

Colin Huang of Sonoma State made his collegiate debut with a splash as he’s been named the year’s first CCAA Men’s Golfer of the Week.

In his collegiate debut, Colin Huang tied for second at the NCAA West Regional Fall Preview at the Foxtail Golf Club in Rohnert Park. Huang shot a -10 under 206 for the tournament to lead Sonoma State to a team victory.

Huang, sophomore from Newport Beach, shot a pair of 68s with a 70 in round two to turn in his 206 scorecard. Holy Names’ Edvin Backstrom was medalist with a 15-under par for the event.

In Tuesday’s final round, when he shot a four-under, Huang started out with a pair of birdies. In the back nine, the first-year Seawolf would record four birdies, including three straight at 16-17-18 for his strong finish. He finished with 17 birdies in the 54-hole tournament.

Sonoma State tied for first with Western New Mexico, each with -14, 850. SSU was declared the tournament winner on a fifth-player tiebreaker.
